Paul Freeman
"I liked the idea of calling the album That's How It Is," says the newly emerging singer-songwriter-frontman Paul Freeman, "because it's direct and it's real. It's one of the songs of mine that people really seem to like." Freeman, who often closes his shows with the song, combines his love and devotion to word-craft with an equally passionate and adroit command of vintage rock-pop on his much-awaited full-length debut album. Launched off his bike, Hoge ended up bloodied, broken-boned, temporarily blinded, and near death. “[The accident] was like stopping a record as it spins,” says Hoge, who had been halfway through recording material for his new record before getting derailed. “It was like taking the needle and pushing it off the turntable.” For ten months, the acciden...More about Cafe du Nord
Cafe du Nord
Café Du Nord is a nightclub, restaurant and live music venue located in the landmark Swedish-American building in the Upper Market district of San Francisco. Although the Du Nord is known for the quality of the national music acts it showcases, the club retains the ambiance of a classic lounge. Built in 1907, it has maintained its Victorian interiors, featuring the original faux decorated paneling and wainscoting, and a forty-foot hand carved mahogany bar. Details throughout the club hearken back to its past life as a notorious speakeasy during Prohibition. The rich red walls and dark wood interior create the perfect environment to enjoy classic cocktails and the most eclectic live music in town — seven nights a week.
