Dave Newton (Piano), Andy Clyndert (Bass), Steve Brown (Drums)
Raised in Scotland, the music of Art Tatum & Earl Garner was ever-present in the Newton household. Work in theatre & the clubs of Edinburgh established him on the jazz scene north of the border. It was his old college roommate Alan Barnes that persuaded Dave to move to London, where he rapidly became much sought after from the likes of guitarist Martin Taylor (1st recording with Martin & Buddy De Franco) and Sax giant Don Weller. He released his first solo album in 1988 on Linn records, the first of 14, including the timeless “Victim of Circumstance”.
During the early 90s his reputation for great touch on piano saw him accompany many of the great female vocalists including Carol Kidd, Marion Montgomery, Tina May, Claire Martin and Stacey Kent.
Add to this his many television, and theatre productions with the likes of Alan Aykbourn, over 20 movies featuring his playing and having been voted Best Jazz Pianist 8 times, and you have a consummate player with astonishing feel for the piano and especially Jazz. www.davidnewton.net
