Description
WHERE'S ENCHANTED ROCK? Just south of the Colorado River, or Lady Bird Lake, take 290 West about 70 miles to Fredericksburg. While driving through Fredericksburg, look for the brown signs that say "Enchanted Rock". Follow the signs north on 965 for fifteen miles and you can't miss the park. I'M HOSTING A CAMPOUT AS WELL If you would just like to hike for the day, that's swell. If you'd like to camp as well, we'll be staying at: Oxford Ranch is a private campground 13 miles north of Enchanted Rock, on Hwy 16, not 965. To get to Oxford Ranch, go to Fredericksburg and go north on 16, not 965 (though 965 merges into 16 and you could still get there on 965, but don't waste time). It is X miles north of Fredericksburg along 16. The cost is $12 per night. Since we'll be staying here Friday the 13th and Saturday the 14th, the camping cost will be $24. Oxford Ranch's phone number is 325.247.1639. It's physical address is: Oxford Ranch 11380 S. SH 16 Llano, Texas 78643 THE HIKE AT ENCHANTED ROCK STATE PARK ITSELF ***ENTRANCE FEE TO THE PARK IS $6*** I'll leave Oxford Ranch at about 10:45 AM and we'll start hiking between 11:15 and 11:30. First, we'll hike up to the top of Enchanted Rock. The view atop is one of the better ones in Texas. All around are the pink granite hills of the Llano Uplift - this whole area of Texas literally exploded up from the Earth. Thereafter we can hike through the cave whose entrance is just below the peak. This will take about 2 hours and is worth it, although squirming through it can be a challenge. We can also hikethe rest of the park. On a Saturday in November, especially in this part of Texas, the weather promises to be quite pleasant - it's not likely to freeze! A blue sky above oak and juniper covered hills while walking a trail sounds good to me. That's why I'm choosing this time and place. MEALS AND THE EVENINGS About five meals: Friday dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner; Sunday breakfast. Bring enough for this and snacks. It usually works out that we share food, but it's always prudent to assume not to. EQUIPMENT Tent, sleeping bag, sleeping mattress, food, boots and whatever else you need for comfort. If you need any help with this, contact me. CONTACTING ME Call me at 214.930.8561 or email me at ctorello62@yahoo.com for any questions.
